Centre receives grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to be used towards creating a composting system on campus. All pre- and post-consumer waste from Cowan Dining Hall will be composted and used in landscaping and gardening across campus. Full story.
The Arbor Day Foundation recognized Centre College as a Tree Campus USA. The award signifies that Centre is dedicated to “sustainable campus forestry.” Members of the Centre community have planted trees across campus. Full story.
Centre is once again selected by the USGBC and The Princeton Review as one of America’s top-rated green colleges and is included in the 2011 Guide to Green Colleges compilation. Full story.
Centre earns Tree Campus USA recognition for 2010 from the Arbor Day Foundation for its dedication to campus forestry management and environmental stewardship. Tree Campus USA is a program of the Arbor Day Foundation and is supported by a grant from Toyota. Full story.
The Campus Center is awarded LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for its environmentally friendly design and construction. Full story.
The College receives another two-year grant for an Associated Colleges of the South/Mellon-funded Environmental Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship, which allows the College to continue having a post-doctoral teaching fellow in environmental ethics or environmental policy. This newly funded position will continue to enhance Centre’s environmental studies minor, both in and out of the classroom. Full story.
Centre College is selected as a Judges’ Choice award winner by College Planning & Management’s Sustainability and Innovation Awards for 2010.
On August 16, the Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The MOU between the EPA and ACS affirm that both parties are committed to enhancing environmental stewardship and sustainability. The MOU will serve as a mechanism to increase cooperation in areas of mutual interest between the EPA and ten colleges in the ACS consortium located within EPA Region 4. Full story.
Centre’s information technology department joins with Dell Computer in the “Plant a Tree for Me” campaign, an effort to offset CO2 emissions related to the use of an extended selection of IT products. By simply adding the “Plant a Tree for Me” option while configuring a new purchase, Dell will donate money toward planting trees at the College. Full story.
