Green Week is Saturday, April 18 through Sunday, April 26 and includes a variety of events meant to educate and celebrate sustainability and environmental responsibility on campus. See below for a list of events.

Saturday, April 18

Central Kentucky Wildlife Refuge Volunteer Clean-Up Day from 10 a.m. to noon. Email Rose Marie Roessler to sign up.

Sunday, April 19

Nature Hike from 1 to 3 p.m. at Shaker Village. Want to get away? Centre students will be marching through the hills and creeks of this historic region in Central Kentucky that used to be the home to Shakers. Come explore what made this such an attractive place for these early communities and release some stress in nature. Meet behind Campus Center at 1 p.m. for transportation. Monday, April 20

I Commit to… Photo Petition from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Campus Center lobby April 20 through April 23. Can’t make the time for anything else? This is an easy way to get involved. Centre Environmental Association will be taking photos of students outside lunch every day, asking them to pose with a statement of what commitment they are willing to make in support of sustainability. These photos will be shown on Centre Social Media and will be displayed for all students to see on the projector in Cowan.

Local Food Cookout from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Brockman grill. Center Environmental Association and Fair Food invite you to this free cookout with locally grown foods.

Tuesday, April 21

e-Waste Recycling from 1:30-3:30 behind Bingham. Bring your old electronics for safe and sustainable recycling. Contact Russ Strunk for information.

President’s Sustainability Convo: “Preparing Kentucky — And Ourselves — For A Carbon-Constrained World,” at 7:30 p.m. in Young Hall Auditorium. Activist Lisa Abbott leads this discussion about how Kentucky’s economy and culture have been shaped for more than 100 years by our position as one of the nation’s major producers and consumers of coal, yet today we face rapid and disruptive transition with the decline of coal mining in eastern Kentucky and the shift to less polluting forms of energy.

Thursday, April 23

I Commit to… Photo Petition from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Campus Center lobby

Fashion Up-cycling Workshop – Fashion Forward Activism (previously known as the Fashion Club) will host a workshop at 6:30 p.m. in Campus Center, Room 202, to re-purpose people’s t-shirts as bags or other accessories in celebration of Green Week!

Friday, April 24

I commit to… Photo slideshow in Cowan.

Sustainability Dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. in Cowan. Sodexo’s dinner will be decked out with local food. Get a taste of the region and get the chance to learn about Centre’s great new composting program and the farmers that help to put food on your plate.

Saturday, April 26

Community Earth Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the BCTC Campus. To volunteer email Preston Miles
The Community Earth Day Festival is Danville’s way of celebrating Earth Day. There will be games, food, music, and booths from groups throughout the region. Come celebrate with us or volunteer to work a booth and educate the community on what’s important to you.
