Why Choose Centre?
Centre is a top-50 liberal arts college that attracts bright, highly motivated students from around the country. It’s the kind of school that provides extras (leadership training, real-world preparation for career success, a global perspective) that cause our students to lead the nation in loyalty. After graduation they give financial support at a rate higher than those of any other college or university.
The Washington Post calls Centre “one of the premier intellectual gathering points in its region.” Centre’s education is personal. You’ll make choices—about internships, study abroad, joint research, completing one or two majors in four years, or even designing your own major—that reflect your talents and interests. Your teachers will ask you to do your best—and work one-to-one to help you achieve success in an exciting, stimulating environment. Your fellow students also enhance your Centre experience. They’re bright (winning top national awards, including Rhodes, Fulbright, and Goldwater), fun- loving, and friendly. You’ll form relationships that last a lifetime. More
Centre is located in the “centre” of Kentucky in Danville (pop. 18,000), which Time magazine calls one of the nation's outstanding small towns. Acclaimed for its quality of life and rich history, Danville delighted hundreds of national and international journalists who came to town when Centre hosted the 2000 Vice Presidential Debate. Centre was selected to host the Oct. 11, 2012 Vice Presidential debate.
Centre’s beautiful campus includes 67 buildings on 152 acres. A multi-million-dollar academic/athletic complex expansion (The College Centre) opened in 2005, a state-of-the-art LEED Gold certified residence hall (Pearl Hall) was completed in 2008, the two-story, 50,000 square foot student center and dining hall (Campus Center) opened in October 2009, the two-story addition to Young Hall was completed in the fall of 2010, adding 40,000 square feet of space to this campus facility dedicated to instruction and research in the sciences. The $15 million Residential Commons project funded by the A. Eugene Brockman Charitable Trust will feature a 125-bed facility, comprised of six separate buildings offering apartment and townhouse living for upperclassmen, is on schedule for completion in August 2012. At Centre, learning doesn't just occur on campus. Here, international study is a way of life, and about 85 percent of students study abroad at least once. Unlike most schools offering study abroad programs, Centre completely runs and staffs its own long-term, residential programs, which are located in Strasbourg, France; Merida, Mexico; and London, England. In each of these cities, students live with fellow Centre students and are taught by Centre professors. The College also has exchange programs in England, Japan, China, and Northern Ireland. All full-term study abroad trips cost about the same as study in Danville. In addition to full-term offerings, Centre offers short trips to almost every continent: Bali, China, Coast Rica, and New Zealand.
Centre is also your passport to the world. To prove Centre's commitment to preparing students for global citizenship, the College will provide a passport—free of charge—to any entering student who does not already have one. More

Stuff Centre Students Don't Say by SGA President, Patrick Cho.
It's a parody of stuff no one says, and it is hilariously accurate.
At Centre, learning isn’t just in the classroom, it’s a total experience. Choose from more than 2,000 campus events a year: concerts, volunteer projects, religious activities, plays, parties, coffeehouses, movies, clubs, student government meetings and more. In athletics, the emphasis is on participation—in intramurals or at the Division III intercollegiate level. On the arts scene, we have some of the nation’s best offerings. Our Norton Center for the Arts regularly brings in world-class performers and shows—for example: legendary soul singer Al Green, violinist Joshua Bell, Kodo drummers, and Broadway hits. In September 2010, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, widely regarded as the most important orchestra in the world, performed at the Norton Center. The concert was conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, the 29-year-old Venezuelan prodigy. More
Our nation-leading alumni support allows us to keep our charges lower than those of other top institutions and to offer generous scholarships and other forms of aid. Princeton Review:“The amount of need-based financial aid and the number of merit scholarships here easily make Centre one of the most generous national liberal arts colleges around.” More than 85 percent of our students receive need-based or merit scholarships, grants, loans, and/or campus jobs. And Centre will match selected state-based scholarships (including Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, South Carolina, and Tennessee). We also offer an interest-free payment plan that allows you to spread payments over the year. We’re dedicated to making a Centre education affordable to all qualified students. More

Rankings and What Others Say
Centre President John Roush frequently counsels members of the Centre community to enjoy the College's high rankings, while at the same time taking them with a large grain of salt. But he also points out that the rankings matter and that “considered collectively…they have substance.” He goes on to say, “If a school is highly ranked and regarded in virtually all the lists and guidebooks—which make their determinations based on widely varying methodologies—it's fairly likely that good things are happening in terms of the education being provided to young men and women on that campus. This is the case with Centre College to a remarkable degree. Wherever you look—from U.S. News to Forbes to Colleges That Change Lives to the National Survey of Student Engagement—you'll find Centre among the leaders. Very few educational institutions in the U.S. are regarded so favorably by so many.” More
