Morgan Mackenzie PSThe Center for Career and Professional Development at Centre College is taking steps toward strengthening its alumni connections and employer relations in order to better serve students pursuing internships and job opportunities. As part of this fresh focus, Morgan McKenzie (pictured above, left) joined the Center for Career and Professional Development in September in the newly created position of employer relations specialist.

In this new role, McKenzie will work to engage alumni, parents and employers in establishing relationships dedicated to connecting students to a plethora of career opportunities. She comes to Centre from the Graham Office of Career Management in the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky, a role that segued nicely to her new position on Centre’s Center for Career and Professional Development team.

“Since I previously worked with Centre alumni through the Graham Office, I was excited when this position was created and became available,” McKenzie says. “I’m excited not only about the opportunity for professional growth but also the chance to work with students of this caliber.”

McKenzie has spearheaded the effort to launch the new Career Mentor Directory, an online directory which will allow students to network with alumni in a variety of career fields.

“This directory will consist of alumni who wish to provide career information or shadowing opportunities to students,” explains Joy Asher, director of the Center for Career and Professional Development. “This provides invaluable networking contacts for our students, and is also a great way for alumni to ‘give back’ to Centre by helping Centre students.”

Alumni “mentors” can enter their own information into the directory and decide how often they would like to be contacted. Students can search the directory by major, industry or geographic location, and can reach out directly to the appropriate alumni with any career-related questions.

McKenzie hopes to enter alumni across all fields into the directory so students will have easy access to a wide variety of connections. As she is working as an auxiliary member of the Alumni Affairs Office, this goal should be easy to attain.

“Together we are working to identify alumni who may be interested in participating in this exciting new opportunity to engage with students,”  says McKenzie. “We hope that this will lead to other productive collaborations in the future.”

Alumni interested in adding their names to the Career Mentor Directory can contact Morgan McKenzie at morgan.mckenzie@centre.edu or 859.238.5949. Students interested in accessing the directory can contact their career counselor at 859.238.5283.
