Presbyterian Church

Address: 500 West Main St., Danville, Ky. 40422

The Presbyterian Church of Danville has a special Sunday night gathering, Get Centred, where Centre students are encouraged to share in a community aside from the College itself.

Chapel, a required part of Centre life until 1965, was held in the Presbyterian Church adjacent to campus. Although Centre is an independent college that welcomes students and faculty of all faiths, it has a historical relationship with the Presbyterian Church.

McDowell Park

McDowell Park is a favorite place among Centre students to get away from campus life and just relax for a little while, especially during hectic times like exam weeks.

A labyrinth walk was built in McDowell Park in 2002. A labyrinth walk is a unique form of “prayer in motion” that involves participants in a metaphor for the spiritual journey. Modeled after the labyrinth set in the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France, the Danville labyrinth is a large circle with a single path that winds back and forth moving alternately toward and away from the center, covering every quadrant, leading ultimately to a central prayer circle. The wide spaces between the turns (the Grace Cathedral variation) allow walkers to stand off the pattern so that others may pass.
The labyrinth walk was sponsored by the Danville Labyrinth Project and built with permission from the Presbyterian Church of Danville.
