Located near Centre College campus, across from Norton Center for the Arts at 500 West Main St.
Chapel, a required part of Centre life until 1965, was held in the Presbyterian Church adjacent to campus. Although Centre is an independent college that welcomes students and faculty of all faiths, it has a historical relationship with the Presbyterian Church.
Labyrinth Walk
Installed: 2002
A labyrinth walk is a unique form of “prayer in motion” that involves participants in a metaphor for the spiritual journey.
Modeled after the labyrinth set in the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France, the Danville labyrinth is a large circle with a single path that winds back and forth moving alternately toward and away from the center, covering every quadrant, leading ultimately to a central prayer circle. The wide spaces between the turns (the Grace Cathedral variation) allow walkers to stand off the pattern so that others may pass.
The labyrinth walk was sponsored by the Danville Labyrinth Project and built in McDowell Park adjacent to the churchyard with permission from the Presbyterian Church of Danville.
