Construction Update
February 2009

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
We've gone from a week frozen in ice to springlike afternoons in a matter of days (not to
mention the high winds that are on the way). And while we've been dealing with the
elements, campus construction has been moving forward at a fairly steady pace, despite
the vagaries of the weather. Read on for more details.

If you have difficulty viewing this e-mail or its images, please briefly describe the problem
in an e-mail to long@centre.edu.

Campus Center
• The weather has been slightly
restrictive to the making of progress.
The Campus Center roof is complete.
The Campus Center should be fully
enclosed in the next few weeks.
The workers will begin laying bricks
this week.

Norton Center
for the Arts

• Work on the Norton Center for
the Arts will begin before the
current school year is finished,
though the College will be able to
hold commencement exercises in
Newlin Hall, as usual.
• The bidding process is under way
for this work. Weisiger Theatre will
be completed by the time Governor's
Scholars return to campus at the end
of June; Newlin Hall will be completed
by early October, in time for the
Norton Center's 2009-2010 season.

Science Building
• The Science Building addition and
renovation of Young Hall are moving ahead
as planned, with the bidding process under
way and drawings of the new Science
Building complete.
• March 2009 is the scheduled start date
for construction.
• Temporary doors have been created on
the southwest and northeast sides of
Young Hall. Once construction begins, the
northeast entry will become the main entry
point as the main doors will remain closed for the duration of the project.
• The installation of a construction fence to
enclose the construction site will be built in
March. This means that the road behind
Young Hall (Colonel Drive) will be closed,
and the parking lot behind Crounse and
Young will become the staging area for construction. Parking will be relocated. In
the next few weeks, President Roush will
send the campus community more detailed
information regarding this.
• The completion of the Science Building
and renovation of Young Hall is scheduled
for fall 2010.
