Construction Update
March 2009

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
From cold to balmy to cold again, the weather has its own rhythm. And so does
progress on campus construction projects, which is a more-or-less steady drumbeat
forward. Read on for more details.

  Campus Center
•The roofing, sheet metal and metal
framing on the second floor are
nearly complete.
All of the concrete has been poured
on the first floor, and metal framing is
in progress.
The bricking has begun on the
southeast corner and will continue
for the next several weeks.
This week, dry-wall installation will
begin on the second floor.

Norton Center
for the Arts

•The “dominoes” in the Norton Center,
including Grant Hall, have begun to
be moved in preparation for the
construction in the foyer beginning
at the end of April.
•Everything is now on schedule,
even though the beginning of
construction is still several weeks
away.

Science Building
•From Saturday, March 14, 2009, until the
completion of the renovation of Young Hall,
which should conclude in the Fall of 2010,
the parking lot behind Crounse and the lot
behind Young will be closed. These areas
will be fenced in and used as a construction
staging area. The section of Colonel Drive
running from the rear of Young to Sutcliffe
will be closed as well.
•For the rest of this academic year,
faculty/staff should use the student lot at
the southern end of the large lot off of
Beatty Ave (near the JVAC). This lot has
had an average of 70 vacant spaces
during the spring term.
•The handicapped parking for Crounse,
Young and Sutcliffe will be re-located to
College Street near Carnegie.
•Deliveries going to Young, Crounse and
Sutcliffe will be made on a push cart from
College St. Large items will have to be
delivered to Facilities Management; staff
members will then arrange delivery to their
intended destinations.
•The College will re-evaluate the parking
situation early this summer and will make
adjustments accordingly for the upcoming
year.
