Pearl Hall

ARCHIVES

Centre College's campus is undergoing dramatic and exciting enhancements. As projects reach completion and others prepare to break ground, the next two years at Centre will be full of change and progress.

Announced in spring of 2007, The Trustee Challenge continues the transformation of campus facilities that began with the groundbreaking for The College Centre (expansion and renovation of Crounse and Sutcliffe halls) in April 2003. This transformation has continued with the completion of Pearl Hall, a new 146-bed residence hall made possible by a gift from Centre trustee Robert Brockman '63. The residence hall is named in memory of Brockman's mother and grandmother, both of whom were named Pearl. The facility opened for students in August 2008.

The Trustee Challenge also made possible the construction of the new Campus Center, which replaced the original Cowan Dining Commons. The Campus Center opened in October 2009 and includes two dining facilities: Cowan Dining Commons and a Grille/Snack Bar; the Student Life Office; a designated space for student organizations; four meeting spaces that provide flexibility for meetings, meals and gathering; a game room complete with pool table, ping-pong table, Wii gaming systems and two flat-screen televisions; and several fireplaces.

The Challenge has also led to the refurbishment—and some renovation—of the College's Norton Center for the Arts and is making possible the construction of an expanded Young Hall, which was completed in 2010.
