AN UPDATE ON THE COLLEGE CENTRE

Major progress continues as The College Centre project moves toward completion. Details follow.

Crounse
The first faculty member has been moved into her new office. The remainder of faculty are moving Thursday and Friday of this week and next week. This will free up current faculty offices for remodeling.

The major mechanical work in the boiler room is completed to the extent that the heat is currently on. There is still work to be done with insulation, controls, and lighting, but the heat system is working.

Work on the exterior front of Crounse Hall is underway. The portico share is poured and the handicap ramp will soon be poured. The plaza is scheduled to be poured this coming Tuesday. Most of the exterior building work is completed. Sidewalks, planting beds, and grassed areas are being worked on. The hope is to have the west side and the northwest front of Crounse planted before winter.

Work on reading rooms and second floor classrooms is progressing well. Smart Board Technology is close to completion, most walls have been painted, carpet is scheduled to be laid, and general construction clean-up is taking place.

Furniture has been delivered for 1st floor reading rooms; these still need wall covering and carpet.

Ceramic tile is being laid in the lower level outside the Vahlkamp Theater (formerly the Bijou).

The emergency power generator has been installed and tested.

Sutcliffe
Both gyms are ready for use; heat and air-conditioning are operational in both gyms.

Most interior walls are in place, and painting is taking place in the lower locker room areas. Heating and air conditioning duct work is being installed, and electric wiring to area electric panels has started. Exterior brick work is continuing. Brick work needs to be finished around window areas before windows can be installed. It is likely that plastic will be used to cover window areas so work can continue on the interior during cooler temperatures.

Most walls on the top floor have been dry walled. Ductwork is in place, and electricity is being installed.

Interior window and door frames have been installed.

Most of the plumbing rough-in work has been completed.

The focus is now on completing high interior work in the recreation gym areas so equipment can be removed and the large concrete floor area can be poured.

THERE'S ALSO A SECTION OF THE COLLEGE'S WEB SITE DEVOTED TO THE COLLEGE CENTRE. Go to http://www.centre.edu/cc for an overview of the project, current pictures and a photo archive, floor plans, an archive of update messages, and more.

Your patience and cooperation is appreciated as work moves toward completion on this major enhancement of the academic and athletic/recreation facilities of the College.
