AN UPDATE ON THE COLLEGE CENTRE
Recent Activity/Information
CROUNSE
The building is being enclosed with the yellow panels that are so prominent. These panels are the under-layment for the exterior brick that will be the final exposed exterior wall surface. The locations of windows are defined and the building is looking more like the drawings we have all seen.
The roofing is coming along quite well with the insulation and nailer boards about 50-60% complete. About 40% of the gutter boards are in place. None of what you see exposed now will be visible when the final finishes are applied.
The interior is taking shape. Metal studs define the rooms that are to be constructed, and electric wiring and outlets are being roughed in to the walls. Metal door frames are in place on all floors and rough-in plumbing is visible in all areas where bathroom fixtures are located.
Both stairways are installed adding to the ease of movement of construction workers throughout the various floors. (In the past, ladders were the only to get from floor to floor.)
Work in the mechanical areas is underway. Demolition of the existing boiler and chiller is in progress. The space for the temporary air conditioning should be ready and the units in service by April 15th. Boilers are ready for delivery once the space is ready for their installation.
SUTCLIFFE
Work is progressing well. The steel is being installed (see picture below), and parts of the building are easily defined by the steel already in place. The floor steel and the roofing steel will help to define the floors and the various recreational/fitness spaces; we are still a few weeks away from starting this part of the steel work.
Once the steel for the west half of the building is in place, work will begin on the pouring of the floor for the recreational gym on the east side of the facility.
The interior of the performance gym is being gutted. The suspended ceiling has been removed and the roofing insulation has been removed exposing the underside of the roof and the metal and wooden trusses. All of the bleachers have been removed and the sheet metal ductwork for the old exhaust system is scheduled to be removed this week.
THERE IS ALSO A SECTION OF THE COLLEGE'S WEB SITE DEVOTED TO THE COLLEGE CENTRE. Go to http://www.centre.edu/cc for an overview of the project, current pictures and a photo archive, floor plans, an archive of update messages, and more.
Your patience and cooperation is appreciated as work moves forward on this major enhancement of the academic and athletic/recreation facilities of the College.
