AN UPDATE ON THE COLLEGE CENTRE

Work on The College Centre has been progressing steadily through the summer, and the buildings are truly beginning to take shape. Most of the exterior brick is now on Crounse, and, with the arched windows and decorative stone, you really get a sense of what a majestic structure this will be. The Sutcliffe exterior isn't far behind, and the gyms should be ready for use in the fall.

Here are some more details about progress on The College Centre:

CROUNSE
First floor: bathroom remodeling is nearing completion with floor tile being set, walls already painted; waiting on bath room partitions and plumbing fixtures to be installed.

Ceiling tiles are being installed in the new first floor, and carpet is expected to follow soon thereafter. Painting is being completed in the new areas and remodeled areas of the first floor.

Stair rails are installed throughout the new facility.

Windows are installed in the fourth floor, exterior finish work above the brick is being installed-about 50 percent complete.

Exterior stonework is about 80 percent complete.

Electric service to both Crounse and Sutcliffe has changed to the new electric transformers and main electric switch gear. Voice and data lines are being installed and electric distribution wiring on the first floor is being installed.

The new chillers that service Crounse and Sutcliffe and operational and serving the current demands for air conditioning.

SUTCLIFFE
Roofing for the new space has been installed and is substantially completed. The roofing for the performance gym, Bowman gym, locker rooms, and entries is almost complete and should be ready for final surface coating prior to the start of the academic year.

Installation of fireproofing material for the structure of the new Sutcliffe areas is almost complete.

Concrete block walls on the exterior perimeter are almost finished and should enclose the facility soon; this will allow for interior work to be completed without regard to weather changes.

The Bowman Gym is almost complete; ceilings and lights have been replaced, the A/C has been installed and should be operational soon. Painting is complete. The only major work outstanding is the sanding and refinishing of the floor. This gym should be ready for use at the beginning of the academic year.

Performance Gym: all above-floor work is complete including the painting, lighting, and air conditioning. The old gym floor has been removed and the new floor is being installed. Work remains on schedule to have this gym ready for the basketball season.

P.S. Relating to another "Centre" matter, all students, faculty, and staff should plan to be in the "Centre is No. 1" picture to be taken on Thursday, September 9th, during common hour. (This is to celebrate the College's reclaiming of the nation's top spot in alumni giving percentage!) Come to the Weisiger side of the Norton Center at 11:10 a.m. (free T-shirts as long as they last) and be part of this historic photo (similar to the one that now hangs in the Warehouse) that will be taken from the roof of Norton.

THERE'S ALSO A SECTION OF THE COLLEGE'S WEB SITE DEVOTED TO THE COLLEGE CENTRE. Go to http://www.centre.edu/cc for an overview of the project, current pictures and a photo archive, floor plans, an archive of update messages, and more.

Your patience and cooperation is appreciated as work moves toward completion on this major enhancement of the academic and athletic/recreation facilities of the College.
