An update from John Cuny
Where we are
After a lengthy period of planning and going out to contractors for bids, The College Centre project is well on its way. The bids have come in below our expectations, and alternate items have been added back to the project. The ground has been dug up and utilities have been installed and buried. The roof has been removed from the front portico of Crounse, and interior demolition work in the Crounse basement is complete.
What's happening now?
The last of the interior temporary construction walls are being installed in Crounse. (This establishes the interior configuration that will be in place until The College Centre project nears completion.) The heating system and the hot water system are being relocated in Sutcliffe, and the lighting controls are being relocated in the two gyms. (These changes will maintain existing services as parts of Sutcliffe are prepared for demolition.)
What's next?
The removal of the front portico of Crounse will be completed in the next few days, and the demolition of the front of Sutcliffe will take place toward the end of September. Immediately after removal of the fronts of Crounse and Sutcliffe, digging of the foundations for the new parts of these buildings will begin.
In general, the project has started on a good footing, and if all continues as planned, completion in the spring of 2005 is a reasonable expectation.

Where to find information on The College Centre
Information on the progress of The College Centre project will be provided throughout the school year. Look for student/faculty/staff e-mails, as well as information in Notesworthy and on the College's homepage. There is also a section of the College's Web site devoted to The College Centre. Go to http://www.centre.edu/cc for an overview of the project, current pictures and a photo archive, floor plans, an archive of update messages, and more.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as work moves forward on this major enhancement of the academic and athletic/recreation facilities of the College.
