Centre a recycling leader among Kentucky colleges
When the 2014 Recyclemania Tournament ended on March 30, Centre led all Kentucky colleges and universities in the amount of paper and cardboard recycled per capita.
Recyclemania is a friendly rivalry among campuses across the United States and Canada during February and March — and like all competitions, the goal is to be the best. With this annual event, however, everyone wins as it educates and motivates students and staff to increase recycling efforts and reduce waste generation. Collectively, campuses recycled and composted 89.1 million pounds of material.
RecycleMania is one of many ways Centre strives toward environmental sustainability and responsibility. Centre is the only college in Kentucky to have four LEED-certified buildings—Pearl Hall, the Campus Center and the addition to Young Hall—including two at the Gold LEED level. The A. Eugene Brockman Commons, completed in the summer of 2012, recently received Silver LEED-certification.
