Parent Orientation Information 2012
The following dates and times are for Parent Orientation for parents of all first-year students.
Parents of athletes and the Bonner Scholars will have an orientation session on their individual move-in dates.
The Tuesday, August 21st and Wednesday, August 22nd orientation sessions will be for all other first-year parents. Parents are welcome to attend the session that works best with your schedule. NOTE: You only need to attend ONE session. Both sessions will be identical except for the Tuesday, August 21st session which will feature a Services Fair in Young Hall. The Services Fair will allow you to meet with representatives from most campus offices and we will include a few more staff members in the presentation that follows, simply because time permits.
The Wednesday, August 22nd move-in orientation session follows the President’s Welcome and introductions in Newlin Hall of the Norton Center for the Arts.
Again, parents are welcome at ALL orientation sessions, but really only need to attend one. YOU WILL RECEIVE A PARENT HANDBOOK AT ORIENTATION.
ATHLETE/BONNER PARENT ORIENTATION DATES
Students check in on the 2nd floor of the Campus Center. All parent orientation sessions are in Vahlkamp Theatre, which is in the basement of Crounse Hall (the Library).

11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Student check-in
2 - 3:30 p.m. Football Parent Orientation
Thursday, August 16
11 a.m. - Noon Student check-in
2 - 3:30 p.m. Men’s Soccer Parent Orientation
Friday, August 17
11 a.m. - Noon Student check-in
2 - 3:30 p.m. Bonner Scholars, Volleyball and Cross Country

Tuesday, August 21
6:30 - 7:15 p.m.
Services Fair (Young Hall, first floor hallway). Most offices of the college have representatives present to answer your questions
7:30 - 9 p.m.
Parent Orientation Session in Young 113
6:30 - 9 p.m.
Students will have game time in Sutcliffe Hall while parents are in orientation (optional)
Wednesday, August 22
Move-in Day Orientation for all parents of first-years who did not attend the Tuesday night session or the athlete move-in sessions.
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Student check-in at the Campus Center and move-in
11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
In Cowan Dining Hall or downtown on your own
2 - 2:30 p.m.
President’s Welcome and Introductions in Newlin Hall
2:40 - 3:15 p.m.
Students meet with academic advisors at various locations on campus. You will be given instructions at that time
3:30 - 4:45 p.m.
Parent Orientation in Newlin Hall (Norton Center for the Arts)
4:45 - 5:45 p.m.
Family Goodbye time at your student’s residence hall
We hope you will take advantage of “goodbye time” to make your farewells and to leave your student in our good hands. They will be scheduled very heavily during these first few days, both to distract and inform them, as they begin their transition. We strongly encourage you to take your leave at this time so that they can focus on the activities that we have planned.
Also, in the past some parents have asked if they might return to attend the Opening Convocation ceremony on the Sunday evening before classes begin, and while it certainly isn’t a closed event, its purpose is to give the College community a time to come together and to welcome in our new students. It is not traditionally attended by parents or other guests.
