Colonels Move to Ninth in Final NSCAA Poll of Regular Season
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America released its final set of Division III women’s soccer rankings for the regular season on Tuesday after the NCAA announced the tournament field on Monday. The Centre College women’s soccer team climbed to ninth in the rankings, the highest the Colonels have been ranked since the 2012 season.
The Colonels captured their fourth straight Southern Athletic Association tournament championship last week with a 4-0 win over Berry College in the semifinals and a dramatic 1-0 win over Rhodes College in the finals. Destinie Graves (Lexington, Ky.) scored the game-winning goal against Rhodes after 87 minutes of scoreless soccer.
The wins over Berry and Hendrix College extended Centre’s shutout streak to seven consecutive games. For the year, the Colonels have recorded 12 shutouts en route to finishing the regular season with an overall record of 17-1-1.
The Colonels will be hosting opening round play in the NCAA Tournament this weekend. Centre will face Penn State-Behrend College on Saturday at 11 a.m., with the winner facing the winner of the Hanover College vs. Capital University match on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
