Danville a contender for Rand McNally’s Most Beautiful Small Town

Posted by Student Worker in News Archive 05 Jul 2012

Danville is known for its picturesque Main Street and charming beauty—and it’s currently in the running to be named the Most Beautiful Small Town in America by Rand McNally.

In partnership with USA Today, Rand McNally sponsored Best of the Road, a series of contests allowing people to vote for small towns in various categories, including Friendliest, Most Beautiful, Most Fun, Most Patriotic and Best Food. After online polls closed, Danville was the top vote getter for Most Beautiful Small Town and ranked third for Friendliest.

After voting ended, Rand McNally sent Nikki and Dusty Green, a husband and wife team, to the top five small towns in the Most Beautiful category with the charge of choosing the town they believe to be the most beautiful. The two were greeted with a warm welcome to Danville that included a tour of Centre’s campus and the Norton Center for the Arts, an interview with Centre Art Professor Stephen Powell, and tours of downtown Danville, the Ephraim McDowell House and Constitution Square. Local townspeople also hosted several receptions for Nikki and Dusty as well as the Rand McNally video crew.
