Peter Lavelle joined Centre's faculty in 2012 as an assistant professor of history.

Lavelle's academic specialty is modern Chinese history.

Lavelle has a B.A. in history from Grinnell College. He earned a M.A. in modern Chinese history, with minor fields in modern Japanese history and environmental history, and a Ph.D. in modern Chinese history from Cornell University.
