Centre Associate of the Year 1992
CLARENCE DAY
Clarence Day is an outstanding example of a successful business executive who has used his financial resources to bring about meaningful social change. A resident of Memphis, Tennessee, Mr. Day chairs the Day Foundation, which he created in 1960 to fund programs in education, social services, and the arts.
Recently the foundation created the Day Scholarship Program, which supports middle-income students attending Centre, Rhodes, Sewanee, and Furman. Over the next seven years, Centre and the other three schools will receive $3.2 million for students from families with incomes that are neither high enough to afford private college tuition nor low enough to qualify for federal financial aid.
Mr. Day is Chair and CEO of Day Companies, Inc., with interests ranging from plywood production to real estate development.
For meritorious service in support of education and the arts, Centre College is pleased to honor Mr. Clarence Day as the 1992 Associate of the Year.
