Centre Associate of the Year 1993
EWING T. BOLES
The late Ewing T. Boles, a native of Williamstown, Kentucky, graduated from Centre in 1916. For the next 76 years he served Centre with unflagging energy, unlimited devotion, and unparalleled vision.
He served in many official ways, including life trustee and chair of the board. But his service in less formal roles was perhaps even more important. His correspondence with the College is full of letters of encouragement and advice to Centre presidents, staff, trustees, and students. Whether talking about complex matters of finance or the status of the Phi Kappa Tau chapter he founded and loved, Mr. Boles’ gentleness and humanity come through. He also served Centre through his example. His integrity and intelligence served as living testimony to the value of a Centre education.
As one of Mr. Boles’ fellow trustees said, “Ewing Boles was a true Centre hero.” For the central role he played in the life of this College for more than 75 years, we posthumously recognize Ewing T. Boles as Centre Associate of the Year for 1993.
