Centre Associate of the Year 1993

Paul G. Blazer, Sr. once told a group of college students “You are in this world not to live comfortably, but usefully – not to receive, but to give.” These words describe Ashland Oil’s place in the recent history of Centre College and Kentucky.
Ashland Oil and Centre have been closely connected for many years. Several members of the Blazer family are Centre alumni, and other family members have served as trustees. That involvement has grown to include other senior members of the company’s leadership. The company, and these individuals, have given generously of their talents and their resources.
This alone warrants our recognition of Ashland Oil. But Ashland Oil also deserves the thanks of all those committed to quality education in Kentucky. Ashland led the call for education reform. The company’s commitment of untold human and financial capital made possible the sweeping changes in Kentucky education.
For living usefully, for giving generously to the College and Kentucky, we recognize Ashland Oil Company as Centre Associate of the Year for 1993.
