Centre Associate of the Year 1996
JAMES M. RATCLIFFE
Centre’s Statement of Purpose affirms that the College’s “highest priority is to prepare its students for lives of learning, leadership, and service.” This year’s Associate of the Year exemplifies Centre’s success in fulfilling that mission.
James M. Ratcliffe graduated from Centre in 1953, and soon joined the Louisville accounting firm of Yeager, Ford, and Warren. He retired as managing partner of its successor, Coopers and Lybrand, in 1992.
Jim’s contributions only begin with his professional achievements. He has given back to his community and state as a volunteer in education reform, social services, and economic development. Jim has also been a key volunteer for Centre, working in fundraising, admission, and alumni activities, including a term as president of the National Alumni Association. In recognition of his service, Jim received Centre’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1989.
Jim now chairs the leadership gifts committee of the Front and Centre in Louisville Campaign, and he has energized the Louisville effort with his own vision and commitment. Jim Ratcliffe has brought Centre’s mission to life, and for that we recognize him as the Centre Associate of the Year for 1996.
