Centre Associate of the Year 1997
JAMES D. ROUSE
Centre has been fortunate to be guided by individuals who possess both a devotion to the College’s mission and the vision necessary to preserve and enhance that mission in a chaotic world. This year’s Associate of the Year embodies this rare combination.
James D. Rouse graduate from Centre in 1962. After receiving his law degree from the University of Virginia, he returned to Kentucky to begin an outstanding career in law and in banking.
Jim’s real career, however, has been Centre College. Every phase of the College’s life has benefitted from his wisdom and work. Involved in alumni activities, including a term as National Alumni Association president, Jim has also chaired or served on several special committees. A member of the Board of Trustees since 1979, Jim currently serves as its secretary. Jim has also been a key participant in Centre’s development program. Most prominent is his current service as chair of the Front and Centre Campaign, the most successful fund-raising effort in the College’s history.
For his steady judgement, for his deep devotion, for his boundless energy, and for his gentleness and humanity, we are pleased to honor James D. Rouse as the Centre Associate of the Year for 1997.
