The Three Graces


Carl graduated from Centre in 1942 with a degree in biology and went on to earn his DMD from the University of Louisville in 1945 and his master’s degree in dentistry from the University of Michigan in 1968. He spent his career working in the field of dentistry. Carl served as a member of his reunion committee and as a class agent. His brother, George, is a member of the Centre College Class of 1937. Carl passed away on March 20, 2008.

Sue Rochester Gingles graduated from Centre in 1943 as valedictorian with degrees in English and history and went on to earn her master’s degree in history from Indiana University in 1944. She is retired from the Charles Reinhart Company, a real estate sales firm. She has served Centre as a class agent, a reunion committee member, an admission match volunteer, and a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Sue’s mother, Sallie Craig Rochester, graduated from Centre in 1939.

Carl and Sue established the Owsley Rochester Award, along with Mr. Paul B. Boyd, Jr., as a memorial to their friend who gave his life in the service of his country. The Award is presented to an outstanding junior or senior.
