David Grissom
Mr. Grissom graduated from Centre in 1960 with a degree in English and went on to earn his LLB degree in Law from the University of Louisville in 1962. He serves as Chairman for Mayfair Capital, a private investment firm. Mr. Grissom joined the Centre Board of Trustees in 1969 and served as chair from 1986 until 2008, upon which time he became a Life Trustee. In addition to his dedication to the Board, he has also served Centre as campaign chair for The Fund for the Future, committee member for the Campaign for A More Perfect Centre, a member of his reunion committee, a vice presidential debate volunteer, and an admission match volunteer. An outstanding alumnus, Mr. Grissom received the Louisville Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1973, an honorary degree from Centre in 1980, Outstanding Alumnus of Kentucky award in 1995, Centre Athletic Hall of Fame induction in 1996, and he received Centre’s highest honor, the Isaac Shelby Medallion, in 2008.
Mr. Grissom established the Grissom Scholars Program, which is designed to aid that young person attending Centre College who not only possesses strong academic credentials but, most of all, demonstrates a high potential for leadership. The Grissom-Landrum Scholarships, established by the Galen Foundation and perpetuated by Columbia/HCA Health Care Corporation, were named in his honor.
Mr. Grissom’s enthusiasm for Centre spread to other members of his family. His brother, Steve Grissom, graduated from Centre in 1964, and his sister, Susan Grissom Durham, graduated in 1968. His son, Greg Grissom, is a member of the Centre Class of 1985.
Mr. Grissom and his wife, Marlene, live in Louisville.
