Grammy-nominated jazz artist René Marie to perform at Centre on Jan. 14
Celebrated jazz artist René Marie will perform on Centre College’s campus this weekend—and in February, she’ll be up for one of the highest musical awards in the land: a Grammy.
Nominated for Grammy Award in the category of Best Jazz Vocal Album of the Year for her most recent album, “Sound of Red,” René Marie will perform in Weisiger Theater in the Norton Center for the Arts on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 8 p.m.
René and the Norton Center have partnered to offer fans the opportunity to get to know the artist prior to the performance at a gathering at 5 p.m. on Jan. 14. The informal gathering will allow those who attend to meet and greet René and ask her questions. For more information about the gathering, contact Jessica Durham.
Over her two-decade-long career, René Marie has come to be considered one of the most compelling musical voices of the day. The art she and her band, Experiment in Truth, perform is a unique combination of jazz, soul, blues, folk and gospel. Of the eleven recordings René Marie has completed, “Sound of Red” marks her first album comprised entirely of original material.
