Jordan Shewmaker ’14 joins Main Street Perryville Board of Directors
Jordan Shewmaker, a native of Perryville, Ky., and a senior at Centre College pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in government and a minor in history, recently accepted an appointment to the Main Street Perryville board of directors. The organization strives to stimulate the economic growth of the Boyle County community’s downtown business district, while also working to preserve and protect its historic integrity.
“Jordan has a strong commitment to his hometown. He brings fresh ideas and understanding of the issues we face in the preservation of Perryville,” says Vicki Goode, executive director of Main Street Perryville. “While being very respectful of our past, he understands the importance of economic development and sustainability, which are required for our future success.”
Shewmaker says his main goal while serving on the Main Street Perryville board will be to encourage residents to support the program by attending events, volunteering and supporting the organization financially.
“Main Street Perryville can only accomplish the task of improving life in Perryville with active support from local residents,” he explains. “I am excited to reach out to my friends and family in the community to encourage their involvement and participation in shaping the future of the place we all call home.
“Perryville represents the best of small town America, and it has a great deal of economic potential, particularly in the areas of tourism and preservation,” he adds. “I am glad to give back to a community that has given so much to me.”
After graduation in May, Shewmaker plans to reside in Boyle County and pursue a career in public service.
