The Study of Religion Abroad

Galilee

The Religion Program

In conjunction with the study of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, the religion program offers on a regular basis the opportunity to travel to Israel in the summer and participate in an archaeological excavation. Professor Tom McCollough has been excavating in Israel since 1980 and has been taking Centre students with him to help with the excavations and to experience the land, the people and the religions of Israel. The excavations have focused on the ancient city of Sepphoris and the village of Cana in lower Galilee. The excavation team lives on a kibbutz and travels around Galilee and to Jerusalem on the weekends. The religion program also offers on an irregular basis the opportunity to encounter the religions of India, the ethical and religious dimensions of life in Central America, and the Greco-Roman context for the life and thought of the apostle Paul.
