“I had a very liberal economic
package when I was at Centre, and I most certainly would not have
been able to attend without aid. For that reason, it's vital to me
that Centre continues to be here for other similarly situated young
people. There are many people who need and will benefit from a Centre
College education, so I want to be sure that there are sufficient
funds for those people who don't have the resources otherwise to
be able to attend such a high caliber institution as Centre.”

Gifts to create an endowed student scholarship
affect the lives of many students and enhance Centre’s ability
to attract and enroll the brightest young people, regardless of their
financial circumstances. Donors can support financial aid by creating
an endowed scholarship. For example, scholarships include:
• A $1 million scholarship fund, providing $50,000 in annual financial
aid, could enable several students to attend Centre.
• An endowed scholarship with a $100,000 corpus would provide $5,000 annually
in financial aid to a deserving student.
• A named scholarship may be established with a gift of $25,000 or more,
payable over up to five years. Additional gifts to an endowed scholarship may
be made in future years or by bequest.
Student Scholarship Naming Opportunities
Endowed scholarships can be created to reflect the personal interests
of each donor. Centre has endowed scholarships that honor and recognize
individuals and corporations, family members and beloved professors.
Some are even given anonymously.
Options to consider when defining scholarship criteria:
• Need-based scholarships help students who otherwise would not be able
to afford a Centre education.
• Merit-based scholarships attract exceptionally able and promising students
to Centre.
• Geographic-based scholarships attract students from specified geographic
areas.
• Departmental scholarships provide aid to students in specified disciplines.
“After I fell in love with Centre
and I applied, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to pay for it,
so it was wonderful when I got my financial aid letter in the mail.
I was on a scholarship, a grant and federal aid.”
