“I know in
my case an outright gift could have some element of selfishness involved.
I have never made a gift to Centre that I did not get sincere pleasure
out of making. I’ve
given to Centre over the years not only because Centre has needs
but also because Centre has done such a wonderful job in satisfying
the needs of the students.”

The Campaign for A More Perfect Centre
Along with student
tuition and fees and earnings on endowment, annual gifts are an important
source of revenue for Centre’s operating budget. Too important,
in fact, for the College to risk any loss in support of current operations
during the Campaign for A More Perfect Centre. Accordingly, annual
giving in support of current operations has been incorporated into
the goals of the campaign.
Moreover, by incorporating support of current operations into the
campaign goal, the College hopes to maintain and even increase the
percentage of alumni making annual gifts to Centre during the course
of this special fund drive. Through their annual giving, Centre alumni
have brought distinction and national recognition to their alma mater.
For 16 of the last 20 years, Centre has led the nation in the percentage
of its alumni who support the College with an annual gift. Ranking
number one in percentage of alumni making annual gifts has caused
some to observe that Centre College has America’s highest customer
satisfaction rating. We prefer to say that Centre has America’s
most caring and loyal alumni.
Centre Associates
The Centre Associates giving program was established in 1991 for
alumni and friends of the college who give $1,000 or more annually.
It is no coincidence that as Associates membership has risen, so
has Centre’s recognition as one of the nation’s leading
liberal arts colleges.
The Associates group offers several opportunities each year for its
members to gather, network and stay in touch with what’s happening
on campus. They include a special reception at Homecoming and the
annual Centre Associates Dinner in January in Louisville.
One of the goals of the Campaign for A More Perfect Centre is to
increase the number of Centre Associates to 1,000. Contact
Centre’s
Alumni and Development staff for more information on how you can
be a partner in this valued effort.
“Our alumni already
know why they should give to Centre. They’ve studied in the library.
They’ve taken classes with wonderful professors. Many of them
have ‘run the Flame’ at some point. Alumni should give
to Centre to preserve the College’s distinct character. Every
little bit that we do will help new students appreciate Centre after
we’re gone.”
