Work hard, play hard

Although I've said this many times before, I survived! First term is now a thing of the past, which is where some things should stay (finals week, for example), and I’m so ready to get the second half of the year rolling.

In all honesty though, winter break was amazing, for lack of a better word. It was the first time for me as a student that a break actually felt like we were off the amount of time our teachers told us we were. In other words, our three-week winter break actually felt like three weeks instead of one and a half. This could have been because of this thing called finals week that falls right before winter break when students are held hostage by their books and aren’t allowed to sleep. Or maybe it could have been because I truly took advantage of being home and appreciated every opportunity to spend time with friends and family.

But really though, finals week is not that bad. Don’t get me wrong—I could do without a week full of tests, papers, and presentations, but the faculty here at Centre does everything they can to make it as painless as possible. They completely understand the amount of stress students are under, so they help us out by spreading holiday cheer with the faculty caroling that takes place one night around campus. Professors also make themselves as accessible as possible for those last minute panic questions that we all have.

Once my three weeks of full relaxation came to an end, the work started back up immediately with what was supposedly the wonderful world of CentreTerm. This is supposed to be the best time of the year, and I have to say, it has been so much more fun than I originally expected.

I’ll admit I wasn't a fan of Centre College when I walked into my African Politics class the first day and was told we were going to have to read six novels over the course of the three-week term. But now that only a week remains of CentreTerm, I’m amazed at how much I've already learned in just two weeks.

The class is one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken, partially thanks to the six books and eight movies that I crammed into my brain throughout the term.

CentreTerm has proven to be a wonderful world indeed. You learn a lot and everyone seems to be in a good mood. I heard a quote the other day that seems to perfectly describe Centre, “At Centre we work hard and we play hard.”
