San Diego to Danville

Right after the last school bell rang, I experienced what most high school students go through on vacation. First, I fell into a light hibernation (light enough to know if something delicious was cooking in the kitchen). Soon, I stumbled out of my room and fell onto the couch to watch TV (a.k.a. "cleaning my room").

After regaining my energy, I re-emerged as a regular San Diegan teenager and hit the beach. Now, I'm working as an intern at the San Diego Zoo's summer camp, which is only the best job in the world. What's great about this summer is that I have so much to do and to look forward to (earning my first paycheck, going to the annual Del Mar Fair, eating deviled eggs on the Fourth of July, going to this one place in Kentucky...)

It's hard to believe that only a year ago I was taking SAT prep classes and starting the college application process. When I started my search for colleges, I had no clue where I wanted to go. So I applied to a range of schools, everywhere from Centre College to UC Berkeley. When it came down to decision time, I knew that Centre was the perfect fit.

So far I've received many different reactions when I tell people that I'm going to Kentucky. My favorite is when people act like they know what I'm saying, but I can tell that they're thinking, "Huh?" To tell the truth, most people in So. Cal. can barely identify Kentucky on the map. But that's why I chose Centre—Danville was foreign and different for me, and I saw it as an adventure.

I'm not nervous about college yet; instead I'm eager for the new challenges and escapades that face me. Sometimes even I can't believe that in two months I'll be living in Kentucky.
