What they say is true

The first five weeks at Centre have taken me through many different ups and downs. It’s been hard being away from my family, friends, and the beach. The great thing about Centre though, is that all of the faculty, staff, and community are extremely supportive. What the college books say about Centre is true: everybody at the school is here to help the students.

Being away from San Diego is getting easier now that I’m starting to see Centre as my second home. I feel at home when I have weekly rituals. In San Diego, Sunday was always sailing day, Monday was TV night, Thursday nights we'd sail again, and Friday was going out to dinner night. What has made me feel at home at Centre is that I've begun to develop new rituals:

  • Sunday is early breakfast at Chowan and laundry day,
  • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings are breakfast at Chowan before 8 a.m. classes,
  • Every Wednesday is “Easy-Mac Wednesday” (microwaving a single serving portion of macaroni & cheese before chem lab),
  • I catch up on the latest episode of Glee and eat at the Grille on Friday,
  • And every Thursday and Saturday mornings I study while having a chocolate chocolate-chip muffin and a Diet Coke at the Hub Coffee House.

It’s still hard to be away from San Diego, but to start calling Centre “home” makes life here great.
