Eleven

11—it's a funny number. It’s prime, odd, and looks the same backwards, forwards, and upside down. It’s also the number of weeks that have passed since I arrived at Centre College, and the number of weeks that I've been away from home. Being away from home this long has finally taken its toll. I’m ready to be back in San Diego. Back to family, friends, sailing, and good Mexican food. Knowing that I don’t get to go home for Thanksgiving break, while most other people do, makes it even harder.

As somebody who always looks on the bright side, I thought to myself, “Katie, how can you make Centre feel like home?” Well, I obviously can’t sail a boat across Kentucky’s open fields of grass, or drive a few hours to visit family. BUT, I can find new things, those here at Centre, that make me feel at home.

So I then thought to myself, “Katie, what are things that make you feel at home?” Well...having favorites! Favorite restaurants, favorite places to go, and favorite activities. You see, having favorites can really comfort somebody.

So then I thought, “Katie, what are some of your favorites at Centre?” And I responded:

Favorite place on campus: The Centre swing (a rope swing that hangs from a tree in front of Old Centre.) Whenever I’m down, it’s something that always makes me laugh.

Favorite food in Cowan: The ice cream…who doesn’t love the ice cream?

Favorite time of day on campus:
Early Sunday morning—when all is quiet. A great time for homework.

Favorite restaurant:
The Hub. I only go there about four times a week.

Favorite procrastination technique: Dancing in my room while nobody is watching…I hope.

The list goes on and on. And although I may not be going home for Thanksgiving, I know that I can treat Centre like a second home.
