Sports gods

Since I grew up in Europe, of course I'm a big soccer fan (although it's called football since you play the game with your feet). I can tell you everything about the Champions League, offside, the latest transfers, and AZ Alkmaar (my hometown team). However, as you probably know, soccer isn't that big in America. Besides the rare articles in The New York Times, I receive most of my information about soccer on the internet just because most Americans aren't interested in it.

Now that I live in America, I'm condemned to follow, and even play, American sports. Although I was already fond of American football back home, I didn't get the whole baseball, ice hockey, and basketball thing. But that's changed in the last few months. I saw the Yankees win the World Series, UK's basketball team beat some other university, and I watch a football game every Sunday while doing my homework. On weekday nights, I play intramural football. I still don't know what to do while playing it—I usually just run around trying to do some good. I fail most of the time. But I've got to say that I really enjoy it, maybe even more than playing soccer (I know, shame on me). And I'm definitely going to play other American intramural sports (softball, basketball) we've got on campus.

Of course I will stick to my soccer religion, no doubt about that. But I'm thinking of going polytheistic and worship the soccer god, football god, baseball god, and basketball god. Call me blasphemous, but I already know that this is possible at Centre.
