Almost overwhelming

After living on campus for over 5 weeks, I've learned what not to do.

1. Don’t worry about the bathrooms or dorms. Bathrooms = quite smashing I would say. Dorms = simply delightful (at least in my case).

2. Don’t worry about the food—I think it’s quite bearable. Plus, the new Campus Center is about to open, and I’m pretty freaking excited. I’ve been eyeing construction sites like my life depended on it.

3. Don’t worry about studying so much that you disregard all the warnings Centre gives you about freaking out, trapping yourself in 6-hour library-brain-torture marathons, forgetting to eat and sleeping well, or at all. Therefore committing a homicide against your immune system, stressing out for no reason, and stopping your vitamins.

Those are all very bad ideas and the results are not swell. I would know. Let’s just say after assassinating my immune system I got sick…REAL sick. The bad news is getting sick stinks...a lot, and it’s seriously annoying. The good news: Centre is AMAZING at taking care of us sick-listers. And roommates and friends are even better.

Missing school really put things into perspective. I never imagined I would miss school so bad, man...never. I missed my roommate, I missed my whole hall, I missed like 20 people who I saw on a regular basis. Heck, I desperately missed being in class. (Yeah, I just said that.) I hadn’t realized how many close friends I had made. And I missed them sooo bad! I had already joined clubs and was all types of upset that I was missing the meetings. Plus there were so many things on campus TO DO once the HM was done (that’s a highly technical campus code for “homework” FYI).

Long story short, a few weeks at Centre feels like a few months in another world. The world is stressful, busy, eye-opening, adventurous, and almost overwhelming...but it’s fun. And once you step outside of it, you may feel the need to throw yourself back into it. Very quickly in my case...but throwing things may not be such a good idea...especially in my case. Oh yeah, so here’s two more rules:

4. Don’t throw things...unless you have to. That’s just polite behavior, really.

5. Don’t stress. Find your “Centre” and relax...get it? “Centre?” Ha! That was a good one...
