14 things

Here we are—four weeks away from being done with classes, five until I finish my last exam.  How did time fly by so quickly?!?

I've compiled a list of some things that sum up my time here so far:

1. FAVORITE THING TO EAT AT COWAN DINING COMMONS:
The desserts. It's so easy to load chocolate cake with ice cream and Butterfinger topping, chocolate syrup, and whipped cream.

2. FOOD ITEM THAT I CAN’T RECOMMEND AT COWAN:
The BLT pizza. Mayo on pizza? Disgusting!

3. FAVORITE CLASS TAKEN DURING MY FIRST YEAR:
Intro to Economics. Taught by Dr. Perry, it might be the most interesting and engaging class I have ever taken—high school included.

4. FAVORITE SPOT ON CAMPUS:
My bed. Other than that, the front of the library—a popular outdoor place where there's lots of sun on a nice day.

5. FAVORITE LANDMARK ON CAMPUS:
The fountain in front of the Norton Center. One of my early videos was filmed there.

6. FAVORITE OFF-CAMPUS PLACE TO TAKE VISITORS: Bluegrass Pike. It’s a country road where I do my long runs. It’s everything Kentucky—rolling hills, horses running along the side, and white picket fences. I love it out there.

7. ADVICE FOR INCOMING FRESHMEN:
Don’t sweat the small stuff. In college, there’s a lot of “small stuff,” and if you let it get the best of you, college is not fun.

8. MOST INTERESTING THING THAT I’VE LEARNED IN THE CLASSROOM:
I don’t think a one-word answer would suffice. Ask me about it next year and I’ll tell you!

9. MOST INTERESTING THING THAT I’VE LEARNED OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM:
Milk from Wal-Mart goes bad quickly in my fridge.

10. BOOK THAT I REALLY ENJOYED THIS SCHOOL YEAR: Freakonomics

11. MOST SURPRISING THING I LEARNED MY FIRST YEAR: Washing machine #3 doesn’t take Canadian quarters—I’ve tried it.

12. ONE THING THAT I LEARNED ABOUT MYSELF THIS YEAR:
I work best in a cubicle, with nobody around, with complete silence. Can it be depressing? Yes. But, do I get a lot done? Yes.

13. FAVORITE RESTAURANT AROUND DANVILLE:
King Buffet. Chinese food—no explanation necessary.

14. MOST ENTERTAINING CONVO THAT I ATTENDED:
Any of the many orchestras that have come. It’s always nice to                      get credit for listening to a world-renowned orchestra for an                      hour.
