Well, here’s a little taste of what Centre is going to get when I arrive. First of all, my name is Erica and I’m a graduate of New Trier High School. I live in a small condo with my mom in a town called Glencoe in Illinois. I am the only child, but don’t think she spoils me too much. I was born in Chicago and just recently moved to Glencoe about 3 years ago. There aren’t a lot of things about me that people don’t know about because I’m really honest and open about myself. The only thing that would surprise people to know about me is that I attended school in Honduras during summer vacations when I was younger.

My absolute favorite thing about high school was being on social service board. I worked at a soup kitchen and a hospital for mentally and physically handicapped children/teens. I love helping people in the community and just enjoy doing stuff that will better someone else’s life. I think this type of activity is something I’ll continue throughout my college career. I’d love to try to get involved in a sorority at Centre.

I’ve been getting so much advice from people since they’ve found out that I’m going to college. Here’s a little something of what they’ve been telling me, "Don’t drink and drive! Don’t drink and dial. Go to church. Do your homework and don’t slack off."... this list could go on forever, but I’ll stop here. I can’t leave for college without bringing my baby blanket, which has been with me for eighteen years. It’s like my buddy that’s been with me everywhere. I’m looking forward to meeting new people at Centre and I’m hoping to do a little traveling with the school.

What I’m going to miss most about leaving home are my friends and family. My biggest fear about college is not doing well, but once I get there and get used to the whole lingo, I think I’ll be fine (I hope).

The biggest hassle about getting ready for college is getting my mom used to the idea of me not being around. I told her I would get her a goldfish or something to keep her company and she could call me whenever she wants.

I just knew that I was destined for Centre the moment I went to visit. I decided on this school because it felt like being home. The Cd in my walkman right now is The Beatle’s Greatest Hits and yes, my favorite song is Yellow Submarine (corny, but catchy).

Boy, am I going to miss my mom’s Fettuccini Alfredo (best in the world). I love watching anything on the travel channel, but the World’s Most Haunted Place is my favorite. The best book I read this summer was Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and of course my freshman summer literature (Four Spirits). Well, that’s all, but there’s still more to come.
