Always something to learn and do Okay, so now may not be the best time for me to be writing my first impressions of Centre because I'm way stressed out about midterms in general, and my hardest one is tomorrow. AHH! But I'm going to anyway. Centre is a lot like I thought it would be as far as the academics go, but the people really surprised me. I have never been around such an open and friendly group of people in my life. I'm a pretty shy person around new people, but I was amazed at how quickly I got comfortable around here. It's kind of scary at first, especially not knowing anyone, but once you get in to the routine of everything it's an absolute blast. Classes take up a lot of my time, and I spend mucho time locked up in the library (especially this past week), but the weekends most definitely make up for it. The dance parties are awesome, and provide a much needed release after all that hard work. I'm really happy with all of my professors. My math professor is so funny. He gets all worked up and excited about math (at 9:10 in the morning) and it makes me actually enjoy being in the class. You know he's good if I'm liking math class. He's so willing to help with anything or explain things 200 times until everyone in the class gets it. It has struck me how incredibly smart my teachers are, and not only are they smart, they are passionate about what they do, and so it's fun to learn from them. So, when you tour at Centre, sometimes they'll tell you a story about a professor calling a student and telling him to come to class, or even, in one case, a professor bringing the entire class on a “field trip” to a dorm to wake someone up for class. I didn't think much about it until I awoke one Monday morning to my room phone ringing. My room phone never rings, so I picked it up. It was a man on the other line telling me that I was missing my math test and that I should probably come and take it, like now. And so I looked at my clock and saw that it had started 15 minutes ago and I had overslept. Needless to say I yelled several unprintable words, grabbed some pants, and went to class. Basically, Centre is awesome so far. It is someplace I look forward to coming back to when I am out of town and someplace where there’s always something to learn and something to do.
