Diverse opportunities to everyone
So, basically, Centre continues to be awesome. I went to Sewanee University this weekend to visit my friends, and while it was a blast, I was so glad to be back here. While I was driving on all the back roads, I got to see how beautiful Kentucky is...especially in the fall, so nice!
The class part of school is going pretty well for me. It's not that it's very hard work (except for math), but it's just that there's a lot of it, and the teachers expect your work to be thought through and meaningful. Just the class part of college is enough to do in itself, but it's worth it because you feel like you actually get to learn about things that you are interested in. Also, it's really easy to get help from a professor if you don't get something. If they aren't teaching they are usually in their offices—so that is really helpful.
Unlike a lot of people here at Centre, I haven't really done that many extracurricular activities this year, but I never feel like I'm at a loss for things to do. Most of my friends do a lot of different extracurriculars though, and while they seem busy, most of them still have time to chill.
This week I'm getting ready to start volunteering at the hospital in Danville. It's just going to be for about six hours a week, but I'm really stoked for it. I get to work in the ER! There are so many opportunities for things here. It's not likely that I'm going to be a doctor, but I thought it would be interesting, and I love that Centre gives diverse opportunities to everyone. It gives you a chance to discover that you are interested in something you never would have guessed you'd care about.
Another thing that can keep you busy is our wide variety of convocations. Every one has to go to at least 12 events throughout the year. These are usually things like plays, poetry readings, or talks about things like immigrant rights, politics, or the environment. At first it sounded like it was going to be a hassle to be forced to go to 12 things every year, but so far everything has been so interesting and there have been so many different options that it is going really quick. There's definitely never a lack of things to do around here, which surprised me since Centre is in a small town. I love it! |
