Time to kick back
School is over, yes is it finally over! I'm so happy to have final exams and final papers, and final projects finished. It's time to kick back and relax after a hard year's work.
So I decided to get two part time jobs, this summer. I'm working in the morning at the Waco Family Practice Center, where I work in the billing department and occasionally help older and disabled patients up the stairs outside one entrance to the clinic. The atmosphere there is great and the people are oh-so-friendly. I'm really excited to have this job, because I plan on becoming a doctor, and what better place to work in the summer for a pre-med student than a clinic?
Then in the afternoons, I moonlight at Baylor where I help with research in Dr. Kane's biomedical lab. I know Dr. Kane through my high school, and this gave me the opportunity to work for him in the summer. Not only is this great work in an area that I'm interested in going into with my life, but also it's back home for the summer after my freshman year. Although college was great, I need a time to go back home.
So my little piece of advice on getting "good" summer jobs is to use your hometown connections.
Other than that, I've gotten to hang out with several friends from back home and even a few Centre friends back home. Even all the way back in Texas, I have friends from Centre. Laura lives in Austin, and Brittany is living outside of Houston for the summer, so we decided we should get together. When we finally did, this past weekend, we went to Schlitterbahn Water Park, which is the largest water park in Texas and therefore the world. We had lots of fun and got lots of sun...and isn't that what summer is really all about?
