So much has happened I can't believe it's been an entire month since I got on campus already! So much has happened...so many new friends, so many activities, and so much homework. But I'm figuring out that all that's part of Centre. You can see a few of my friends to the right in that picture area. I said just a few, because after freshman orientation and classes and dorm life you've met at least half the freshman class. Speaking of dorm life, the embargo is over! What is the embargo you might ask? Well it's the term of the restriction that kept guys out of girls dorms and girls out of guys dorms for the first three weeks of school. It really wasn't that bad, especially because it used to be six weeks. I've done so much even though I've just being here a few weeks. I've gone to at least four presentations in the Norton Center, some of which include: the music of Ray Charles, and a concert of Middle Eastern music that was really calming. I just started the rushing process for Alpha Phi Omega. This is actually a co-ed service fraternity, so it's not a social frat; it doesn't have a house, but they do lots of service activities which really appeals to me. For those of you worried about rushing at Centre, I wouldn't worry 'cause we have delayed rush in the spring so you can get to know the fraternities and decide which on is right for you, if any. Anyway, I think it's great how they do it here. There's also this “Get Centre’d” service Sunday nights at the Presbyterian Church on the corner that I go to. It's dark, has candles at the front, and best of all: incense. We sing Taize songs that are prayerful, relaxing, and repetitive and I would suggest that anyone should try it out. Just a little parting advice for college: Don't get sick! It's terrible, you're tired, your nose is running, and Mom isn't there to make it all better; worst of all is that unless you're bedridden you still have to go to class. Lucky for me, my mom packed me an emergency all-purpose sick box that has everything from chicken noodle soup to anti-vomiting medicine. Needless to say that after some Alka-Seltzer Cold Plus and 10 hours of sleep I was much better. The moral of the story is: wash your hands.
