Staying afloat

This past week I got an e-mail from my Dad saying that it was only 10 weeks until this semester was over and I would go home for the summer. I realized that 10 weeks really isn't that long and will probably go by very quickly.

This makes me pretty sentimental about my freshman year. After this summer, I won't be able to make any stupid mistakes and blame it on my freshmanness.   From next year on, I'll have to accept responsibility for my mistakes...I'm just kiddin'; I know about responsibility and all that jazz. But really, there's something special about being a freshman. It could be the new people you meet, or the brand new life you're thrown into.   Either way I'll still get to meet new people with every new freshman class.

Anyway, enough sentimentality; this semester is off to a running start with classes. In BIO 210, evolutionary genetics, we have lab twice a week, but it's half as long.   We're working on breeding flies with autosomal linkage, sex linkage, and single chromosome linkage. Don't worry about what that means, it's just pretty cool stuff. And there's a competition between the morning and afternoon labs to see which can grow a plant with the most tricomes.

And my teacher in Humanities is Dr. Rasmussen who made us sing excerpts from "Marriage of Figaro" by Mozart. He was encouraging, because he told us that he couldn't sing any better than us. He's fun to learn from, because I can tell that he really wants to teach us about the opera and Shakespeare play that we're studying.

The thing about Centre is that just because your classes are fun doesn't mean that they're easy. I've had quite a bit of homework, but have managed to stay afloat.
