High school is over Whew! I can't believe high school is over. The last few months really flew by. Basketball season became lacrosse season as the snow changed to rain and eventually the sun radiated onto the turf. Teachers began study sessions for AP tests and finals, while "senioritis" made dragging myself to school nearly impossible. May 25th, I, along with my 388 classmates, walked across Broadbent Arena's stage trying to avoid an embarrassing misstep while seizing my diploma. It's official. I graduated and now in a few short months I'll be a freshman at Centre College. This brings up another issue. I went to Ballard High School because it's five minutes from my house and I played basketball for Ballard since I was an eighth grader. The choice was obvious. My college decision, however, required much more consideration, time, and even tears invoked by stress. Staying true to my nerdy organizational habits, I made a list of characteristics I wanted in a college. Size, location, student-teacher ratio, variety of course offerings, and athletic programs were all on my list. At Centre, not only would I be able to further my education, I'd be able to participate in a collegiate basketball program. I made several visits to the campus which proved to be icing on the Centre cake. The campus is gorgeous, the teachers truly care about their students, the President of Centre and faculty members are very accessible, the sport facilities are brand new and there's a great variety of food at Cowan (not to mention it's a buffet)! Two weeks into summer I find myself extremely busy. Between my summer job and the basketball camp I'm working, I feel exhausted. On top of trying to enjoy the time I have with my friends before I go to college, I just received my summer workout regiment from Coach Austin, Centre's women's basketball coach. My jaw hit the floor as I read about the weight training and agility/speed programs. I'm excited about getting into shape for the upcoming season, but WOW, it's only June. I never realized how quickly my departure for Centre is approaching. Before I know it, my little RAV4 will be packed and I'll be eastbound heading toward a new adventure.
