Nobody was joking I’m really a college student! Coming to the end of the first six weeks, I can't believe all that I've experienced here at Centre. First, I really am a college student! I have five classes and a lab, real professors that are experts in the subjects they teach, and tons of homework! I live in Evans Hall (dorm life...that's something to get used to. I mean have you ever lived within breathing distance of over twenty girls?), and Laura is a great roommate. I've already had two tests, three papers, and over a dozen quizzes. Nobody was joking when they said Centre was tough academically! Second, college athletics are the real deal. Preseason for basketball started the second week of classes. We lift three days a week and have open gym at least three days, not to mention the team favorite, Speed and Agility, on Thursdays. Basketball is a great part of the day, however, because the girls are so much fun. The first weekend we celebrated Ande's birthday as a team and this past week was Operation Initiation (it's a don't-ask, don't-tell thing, sorry). I can't believe that practice starts October 14th. It's finally game time...Go Colonels! Third, although school is hard and basketball physically challenging, the social life compensates for mental and physical stress. The Centre community is strong because the people are so friendly. Our community is extremely diverse and so there's always someone around who enjoys the same things you do. There's something going on at all waking hours. Hanging out with the girls on the hall is also a nice break from homework. Sometimes we leave campus for dinner or shopping trips to Lexington. Despite the massive amounts of homework, college life is great. This really is going to be the time of my life. As the leaves are changing colors, Centre is becoming home. I walk confidently across campus, not intimidated by the great intellectuals who surround me, but encouraged to carry the torch (a little shout out to The Flame). I've found my part in this community, and I look ahead with optimism (I just finished midterms and practice starts Sunday).
