This is a typical Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for me and not much changes on Tuesday and Thursdays except for different classes. Thankfully, college is not as monotonous as the schedule above appears. Dad always told me that there is so much free time in college compared to high school, and that really is the truth. Sure, classes are a lot more demanding which means I have more homework than I did in high school, but I only have about three hours of class time everyday as opposed to six. That leaves me 21 hours to do whatever I want (within reason...don't get too excited).
It's said that you should spend between one to two hours doing work outside class for every hour you are in class. While this may seem like a lot, I still have about 15 hours left in the rest of the day.
What happens next in your schedule depends on your personal commitments and the activities that you enjoy. I devote my time and energy to basketball. We practice about two and a half hours, six days a week and in a few short weeks, games will be added to my schedule. Following my simple math, you can see that about 12 hours remain. I like to devote about eight to sleep whenever possible, leaving me with the grand total of four for free time. My free time is composed of hanging out with other girls on the hall, catching up with my family on the phone, or just relaxing.
The great thing about college is the ability to get involved with things that you enjoy, in addition to academics. Extracurriculars differ for everyone, but Centre makes getting connected really easy. Some students choose varsity sports, internships, volunteer activities, student government, or religious fellowship groups. What you do in your spare time really depends on what you like and how involved you want to be. |
