Flip-flops have reemerged

So, what's your excuse for not coming to Centre? I know this is an abrupt beginning to such an amiable conversation, but I'm slightly confused because Centre is the BEST place to pursue your collegiate endeavors. Okay, I am a little biased; however, if you stop by to visit, it will become an undisputable fact to you as well.

Seriously, now's the perfect time to make a drive to Danville, Kentucky because spring has sprung; the dogwoods are in blossom, flip-flops have reemerged from dark closet corners, and non-academic time is filled with Frisbee, lounging in the sun, and attending baseball games.

To be honest, it's become a real challenge to stay focused on academics because of spring fever, but the best students (all Centre students of course) learn to manage their time so that they can enjoy the company of their friends and this beautiful weather, while keeping up with class work.

Speaking of spring, can you believe that school will be over for the term in six weeks? I can't fathom the idea that summer break is in two months and that my freshman year of college is almost over. The quickly ending school year has a couple of implications that concern you:

First, will I see you next spring (when I return from Turkey—it's official I'm going) donning Centre paraphernalia discussing how glad you are that you chose to attend Centre? Just think, in six weeks I'll no longer be the new kid on the Centre block...and the new kid could be YOU! Wouldn't that be absolutely amazing? I think it would!

Second, what are your summer plans? My summer plans include babysitting the same great kids that I watched last summer. While some Centre students take advantage of internships available through our career services office in awesome locations around the world, others choose to find their own jobs or relax for the summer. I'd love to intern in Washington, D.C. (I plan on pursing that next summer), but I've decided to stay close to my family this summer since I'll be living and studying abroad from mid-August through late December. I'm so excited about my semester in Turkey, but I'll not bore you since we discussed how great this opportunity is for me last time we corresponded.

As class comes to an end, I'm overwhelmed with papers, tests, and homework. Don't worry about my sanity, though, because there are plenty of things to keep me entertained between linear algebra assignments and Ottoman Empire readings. I, like many other Centre students, await fraternity and sorority spring formals, Carnival, Air Guitar, corn-hole tournaments, and backyard barbeques to break up the academic intensity of the end of the semester. So as the semester winds down, we will continue follow the aphorism of a dear wise man: "Play hard and learn a lot."
