Another internet fling

Can you believe that eight months ago you wandered upon My CENTRE Life while navigating through the Centre Web site? I hope you found what you were looking for, whether it was information about Centre's academics, athletics, and study abroad programs or just an excuse to procrastinate about your college applications. I hope you enjoyed our time together (I know this was just another internet fling, but you still mean a lot to me). I feel privileged to have had the chance to share my freshman year with you, and please know that it would be an honor to welcome you into Centre's family in the fall.

I was thinking about the invaluable things I learned this past year which I'd like to impart to you before we begin to go our separate ways. The following list was five times as long, but I decided it's important for you to learn some things on your own (after all, that's what college is all about!). Below are 5 truths about my Centre life:

1. There's ALWAYS time for a nap; enough said!

2. The work will get finished, it always does, so don't feel guilty about putting aside your homework for awhile to enjoy the company of your friends.

3. The food is edible, but you might need to be a little creative with your combinations of what's available to make an appetizing meal.

4. It's possible to be involved in too many activities, so pick a few to invest your time and energy in because while Centre's extracurricular opportunities are endless—your time and energy are not.

5. To feel like a part of Centre's community you must get involved. I strongly recommend not calling home 50 times a day or going home every weekend. While there are always exceptions, the more you put into your Centre life, the more you'll get out.

"Parting is such sweet sorrow," but the time has come to begin to say adieu. Basketball season has come and gone, fall semester and Centre term have passed, and spring semester is quickly ending. While I'd love to continue this sentimental nostalgia of what's come and gone, I simply don't have the time. I'm in the midst of completing lab reports, papers, group projects, and preparing for finals. Not withstanding the ever-growing tower of homework that I must conquer in the next weeks, I'm going to make the most of this spring weather (I didn't think it was ever going to warm up!) by playing basketball outside, taking late night walks to the Grille during study breaks, and going for runs around Danville. The way I look at things, I'll never be a freshman again and so I need to enjoy the company of my friends (especially seniors) and do silly things where the only possible excuse is, "Well, I'm a freshman..."

P.S. See you online with my final entry in June!
