Changed a little day by day

What a year! I can stand here today and say college has brought things that I expected as well as other things I never saw coming. I absolutely love the atmosphere here at Centre; I really can't see myself anywhere else. I've developed relationships here—some that I know will last much longer than my days in college. I want to share with you a few of my most memorable experiences from my freshman year...

Life here at Centre College is full of surprises; it really catches you off guard sometimes. Just this semester, I've learned what pledging a fraternity is truly about, how to play a round of campus golf, and the exhilaration of "running the flame." Overall, I've learned that studying for tests more than one day in advance really helps, and going to professors about papers is a great idea. Classes here are tough—I've said this before, but I've learned a lot about things I never thought I would. I'd say the hardest times at Centre are making it through those "tough" weeks, but the best part is having the weekend to spend some quality time with a good friend or playing for one of Centre's sports teams.

Personally, I believe I've changed a little day by day. At times I've seen examples that have inspired me to work harder, but there are also times when I just want to catch a movie with a few friends and relax. I'm starting to realize how fast my time at Centre is going to fly by, seeing how fast this year has gone. College is a wonderful time for people to learn and grow, in the classroom and personally. The best part is that everyone who comes to Centre has a good understanding of what it takes to be a good person; I can see that and it's such a positive influence on people here. It's making me a better person everyday.

I'm going to miss those who are graduating this year, because they too have shown me how to work hard, but also how to enjoy life at Centre. I know they're going off to great places like Vanderbilt, the University of Tennessee and even Mexico, and that gives me reason to keep working hard to have opportunities like them. As I look back over the year, I can remember some of the funniest times as well as some of the most stressful, but if I could do it again, I'd do it the same.

P.S. Stay tuned for my final entry next month.
