20 questions
1) Hometown:
I was born and raised in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. I was here before the "Titan" merger and I went to Harrodsburg High School for three years. Then, after the merger, I went to Mercer County.
2) Family/Pets:
I have only one pet and her name is Brandy. She's a two-pound, full-grown, miniature Yorkshire terrier. She is a pretty good dog, but she occasionally leaves things in the house that should only be left outside. (Need I say more?) But, she's a great dog and we love her to death.
3) High School:
The high school question is a mess. I went to Harrodsburg High School freshman through junior year. Then, there was a meeting that decided that we should merge the city school with the county school. They said they would build a new school and everything would be fine...but the transition has been anything but. I don't really know why they merged the schools to begin with. I did manage to tie for first in our class though, and I received the Commonwealth Diploma. So, I guess I didn't do so badly.
4) Extracurricular activities:
This is the easiest question ever: I do triple jump, long jump, and high jump in track. Those are the only extracurricular activities I do according to the majority of the people in my hometown. I actually do more than just go to track practice and meets. I actually have a Christian rap label under which I just released a second album. The new CD is by my group, 24/7. It's called Tha Life Vol. 2. It just goes through the life of a growing Christian; it tells about things we do, things we see, things we want to do, and things we want everybody to do. All Glory goes to the Lord.
5) High school career highlight:
I have two highlights. The first one is when I got to perform one of my songs in front of 200 FCA members; it was a great experience. My other highlight is when I broke the overall state record in the triple jump, and beat the class AA state record in long jump. It was definitely one of the best days of my life.
6) Favorite past "My CENTRE Lifer":
Sarah Hargis.
7) The thing you are most looking forward to about Centre:
I'd say meeting new people and being on my own for a while.
8) Your greatest apprehension about college:
The fact that Centre has extra-hard classes. I don't know how well I will do. I'll just pray a lot and study a lot.
9) The way your parents feel about you moving out:
I think they really don't want me to leave. They pretend they do but I don't know if they want me gone.
10) Intended major(s):
Pre-med/biology or chemisty, but I haven't decided yet.
11) If you could bring one performer/group to the Norton Center for the Arts, it would be?
Cross Movement (Christian rap).
12) Worst movie ever:
The Descent.
13) Most memorable trip/vacation:
I went to Puerto Rico this summer for the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational track meet. It was a really great experience. I got to jump against some college athletes from Puerto Rico and I got to enjoy native food and drinks such as acerola (tropical cherry) juice. It was great.
14) Favorite smell:
I guess I would have to say vanilla or strawberry lotions from Bath and Body Works.
15) Person you most admire?
Being the Christian I am, I have to say Jesus. Why? There are many reasons...I'll try to keep the short though. He was the Son of God born of a virgin mother. He was rich in the spirit though he was poor in our eyes. He never had a place to rest but slept where he could. He never once complained to God about any circumstance he was faced with. He never committed a sin. He made Satan look like an idiot every time they had any type of interaction. Last and most important...he died on the cross for something he didn't do; he died for our sins although he never did one thing wrong in his 33 years of life.
16) Person (living or dead) you'd most like to meet?
Jesus Christ.
17) If stranded on a deserted island, what would be the one non-survival item you'd want with you?
My iPod...it has all my Christian rap and gospel music. It has a calculator, it has games, and it has a Bible...but I just remembered that batteries will die. So, I guess just my Bible so I can still be close to the Lord while I'm there.
18) If you had thought of it first, the invention do wish you could have been credited with?
I would definitely have to say the iPod Bible. It goes perfect with our iPod generation. It's portable, its fast, and its easy to get to.
19) Describe yourself in a haiku.
My name is Chrys Jones.
I believe in Jesus Christ.
I also run track. 20) Why did you choose Centre?
I have always heard about Centre's rich academic tradition. The national ranking of the college plus its educational value makes Centre an excellent choice. I also know Centre's Lisa Owens is a great track coach and she can get me to the next level in my triple jump. I asked myself this question: "Great education, great coach...what more do I want?"
